What will I write for the About Us section of our web site?
Most of your web site is about your customers or potential customers. The
"About Us" pages are your chance to write about you and your company . Be
open, be honest, be friendly and promote yourself. While you are writing
keep in mind you are writing for your customers or potential customers to
read.
Web users are canny and credibility is a big deal. If people don't know
who you are they will not trust you and if they don't trust you they wont do
business with you.
So what exactly should go on those About Us pages? At the very least you
need:
- Address and contact details. Usually called "Contact Us" page
- Names of key staff with contact details and ideally a photograph
- A brief background of the organisation
- Achievements and awards
Remember to write these for the person reading them, keep thinking 'what
will visitors to my web site be looking for? What will they be interested
in?'
If you have a bigger web site or the time to write more then you could
expand this section with:
- Affiliations. Mention partners, suppliers and maybe key clients
- Features on your top executives. Provide experience, degree's and,
in most cases photographs are beneficial
- Expand on your organisations history
Promote your organisation and your people with honesty and integrity. Web
users get savvier every day and they can sense your organisation through
your web site.
For those of you using Nautilus to update your web sites it's very easy
to keep your "About Us" pages current and credible.
