Why isn't Google indexing my site?

There seems to be a delay of about 6-8 months in getting new sites listed on Google.

We used to keep a site under wraps and launch it once it was ‘perfect'. With these delays in place we now recommend getting a page up for your new site as soon as possible, even if it a temporary page. This page needs accurate, relevant information about your business. The sooner Google is aware of your domain, and can index it, the better.

As soon as you have your domain name, get the hosting set up, put up a temporary page and link to it from another site in Google's index to start that clock ticking.

If you have a brand new site that's not indexed then the old advice holds true:

•  Get your site listed on other websites

•  Submit a Google Sitemap

•  Be patient

If you have not launched your new website yet then plan ahead (see above).
